RE: PR Docket No. 93-61
GOCKel rILE copyOR\G\N~l
You have been asked to okay a new "compromise" rule for
broadband AVM service. I am writing to ask you to oppose the new
rule.
The political "compromise" attempts to stake out a middle
ground between the preferred position of broadband AVM and Part 15
companies. Unfortunately, it is not a workable technological
solution. You can not just "split the difference" or give each
side a part of what it wants.
If adopted, the compromise will significantly limit the
development and use of Part 15 wireless products and services that
have a number of important public interest applications.
It makes little sense to do so particularly in light of the
fact that vehicle monitoring services can be offered in other parts
of the spectrum and using other technologies such as Global
Positioning Satellites.
Please do not sacrifice the important education, health care,
internet-related services, energy conservation, public safety, and
personal communications, and other public interest applications of
Part 15 devices at the alter of political expediency.
Your decision in this matter should make sense not just for
the companies involved but also for the broader public interest
principles at stake.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
Charles Brown
