Power Radio )
Service )
My name is Thomas D. Keenan, and I strongly support any actions the Federal
Communications Commission can take to expand and support the Low Power FM radio
service. I am a founding member of a new community radio station in our area and
have found the experience extremely gratifying in that we have been flooded with calls
and comments thanking us repeatedly for offering venues to support and inform fringe
communitites, minority communities and mainstream communities in and around our
city.
The overwhelming support from so many diverse citizens and groups is absolutely
breathtaking and encouraging. When I first got involved with this project none of us
dreamed just how much this sort of communication network vehicle would mean to
others, nor the hunger for this sort of operation. With the ever growing concentration
of media ownership becoming the norm, sadly, the diversity of ideas, views, informative
information, presentations and social need is loosing ground at an alarming rate. As a
pillar of democracy it is essential that we do all we can to preserve free speech, the
diverse ideas that made this country great to begin with, and corporate/commercial free
media outlets. Democracy can only flourish when communication is allowed to flow
unimpeded by overwhelming commercial or political influences.
Thank you for your time and consideration of my comments.
Sincerely,
Thomas D. Keenan
