I would like to comment on the Sports Blackout Petition. I fully support this petition as I am sure hundreds of thousands of others do! I must say, I find it alarming that the FCC only announced yesterday Jan 12, 2012 that they where accepting comments to be submitted today (ONLY!) Jan,13 2012 First of all, people should be allowed at least one month to voice their opinions on this matter to the FCC, whether via comments on this site, email, "snail mail" ..etc! Speaking of making comments on this siteâ?¦It is very difficult to navigate and there is no CLEAR way to post a comment addressing this matter! "Commission Seeks Comment On Sports Blackout Petition" is not listed as one of the above Proceedings you can select on this page and there is no DIRECT comment link on the "Commission Seeks Comment On Sports Blackout Petition" page so I'm not even sure I am posting the comment correctly?! The bottom line is as tax payers we pay for these stadiums to be built therefore these games should be broadcasted! ALL games are filmed(live as they are being played) and commentated on by the local broadcasters and personnel anyway! If the NFL doesn't want to send equipment and personnel to broadcast the games fine! But the local affiliates should be able too! Furthermore, anyone else, whether it be an establishment or public resident paying for an NFL package should be able to view these games as well! The reason for these blackouts being implemented in the first place is outdated and irrelevant! It has been for many years. The blackouts were originally imposed as a way to increase ticked sales. But, blackouts alienate Teams form their Fans and Fans from their teams! In this economy between blackouts and high tickets/concession prices(the next thing that should be addressed!) not to mention parking, gasâ?¦etc it actually decreases the amount of ticket sales! Add to this that each year the number of blacked out games increases and teams with winning records heck, even playoff teams(this year Bengals and Lions) have blackout games and this decreases the number of tickets being sold even further! The exact opposite of why the blackouts were implemented in the first place!
